What concept to be used when finding then unkown parts of a right triangle?

You would use the Pythagorean theorem

A^ 2 + B^2 = C^2

example : the hypotenuse is 10^2 cm and one of the legs is 6^2 cm. What is the length of the missing leg?                               X is the unknown

6^2 = 36

10^2 = 100

                                                                 now we check our work:

6^2 + x^2 = 10^2                                       6^2 + 8^2 = x^2

  1. 36 + x^2 = 100                                 36 + 64  = x^2
  2. -36             -36                                  x^2 = 100
  3. x^2 = 64                                            √(100 = 10
  4. √(64 = 8
